Dr Kailash Chaudhary, managing director of Aksh Optifibre said that the company was planning to roll-out IPTV services in Mumbai next month.
“We are aiming at manufacturing set-top boxes from the third quarter, which will bring down the STB price by at least 40-50 per cent in india ” he said adding that the company was initially planning to manufacture for internal consumption.
Dr Chaudhary said that the company would manufacture 0.5 million STBs in the assembly line to be set-up as part of its Reengus plant at Rajasthan.
Aksh Optifibre has entered into a seven-year agreement with MTNL to provide IPTV (broadband content) services to MTNL subscribers in Delhi and Mumbai.
“Though we are in the process of doing a pilot roll-out in Delhi, we would be launching the IPTV services in Mumbai during March. For this purpose, we are in the process of tying-up with content providers. Now we have already tied-up with 22 television channels and by month-end we should be at 70,” he informed.
The company aims to take ‘fibre-to-home’ for every subscriber of MTNL in Delhi and Mumbai and also launch triple play services, offering internet, VoIP, and IPTV services.
